    Mary Ellen Mergenthaler (neé King), of Newtown, passed away with her family by her side on Dec. 6, 2009 after a brief battle with cancer. She was 59.

She was the beloved wife of Thomas (“Pete”) J. Mergenthaler; devoted mother of Lauren A. Mergenthaler, Karen L. Tucci (neé Mergenthaler) and Kenneth P. Mergenthaler. She was the dear sister of Deborah Tucci (neé Kostaras). She was also the cherished sister-in-law of John and Dotti Mergenthaler; Irene and Jerry Schulman; and Otto and Susan Mergenthaler. She had a step sister and two step brothers. Mary Ellen had several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Cynthia King and her sister-in-law, Lorraine Haas (née Mergenthaler).

She was the driving life force behind the people who loved her. She had a passion for traveling, cooking and entertaining. She was a world class entertainer. Holiday meals were an extravaganza. She loved the beach. Her favorite destinations were Paris, Punta Cana and Atlantic City.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late William King and Bernice King (neé Pragheimer). She was a 1968 graduate of Neshaminy High School and received her B.A. in Education, suma cum laude, from The College of New Jersey. She first built a career as an educator and then a client relations specialist in educational sales. She was masterful at building relationships in both her personal life and in her career.
